Patrick Heron (1920-1999)
Patrick Heron studied at the Slade between 1937-39 and in the 40's met Nicholson, Gabo and Hepworth although previous influences included working for his father's firm, Cresta Silks and later assisting at the Leach Pottery.
The first exhibition of American Abstract Expressionism held at the Tate in 1956 was instrumental in changiing his work from the figurative medium. He was to play a leading role in the development of post-war abstract art both as a writer and painter
From the mid 1950s he lived at Eagles Nest, Zennor, Here the extraordinary light, colour, shapes and textures in the spectacular garden provided constant inspiration for his work.
