Artist's Statement

My foremost interest as an artist is in painting the Northern British landscape. I mainly paint outdoors as this enables me to respond to places I know and love and to the ever changing weather and light. I feel I can only get closer to what is happening in the landscape by painting in this way.

I enjoy the different qualities of the materials whether oil or water-based and try to find equivalents for the softness of moorland grass, the transparency of a cool blue sky or the solidity of a limestone cliff.
